Why Do People Home School Their Children?

Of course in America there are many options to educating our children. There are public schools, private schools, charter schools, Montessori schools and, of course, the option of home schooling. There are advocates of both home schooling and public schooling. Those of us who don’t home school, which is still the majority of Americans, need to fully understand the reasons why people choose to home school their children.

Religious or Philosophical Convictions:

Religion is not permitted in the public schools. Many families feel that religion needs to be a larger part of their child’s education than that which the public schools allow.

People who have deep religious beliefs show great passion. These are the individuals who are passionate about their children’s education and feel that only they are able to teach them to the best of their ability and the content that they feel they should be learning. The home schooling parent is in charge, they call the shots and they like it that way.

Socialization:

Some people that don’t understand home schooling believe that it is confining rather than socializing. But those individuals that believe that are stuck in thinking about the stereotypical socialization of an age-based classroom. Children that are home schooled are exposed to social situations in a mixed age range. They have “age-mates” instead of “class-mates”.

Many home schoolers feel that their children need to be exposed to the appropriate ways to behave not inappropriate. They feel that their child should be exposed to the model behavior of people who have learned to make decisions and handle themselves in various social settings. By being exposed to appropriate modeling of social behavior, home-schooled children will learn how to act appropriately.

Leadership Philosophy: Expand Your Mind

Leadership comes in many different shapes and forms.  As leadership comes in different shapes and forms, so does leadership philosophies. There are people from all walks of life who have their own philosophy on leadership.  Who’s to say which is right and which is wrong?  But if you expand your mind and allow your leadership to grow, you will benefit any organization.

Followers expect leaders to show them the standard and train them to reach it. They expect leaders to lead by example. Additionally, they expect leaders to keep them informed and take care of them. Being a leader will require you to ask others to make extraordinary sacrifices to achieve goals. Leaders may have to call on them to do things that seem impossible. However, “If leaders have trained their people to standard, inspired their willingness, and consistently looked after their interests, they will be prepared to accomplish any goal, anytime, anywhere” (Reeves, 2004).

Leadership philosophies are based on opinions and experiences of an individual, which is why philosophies may not necessarily coincide even though you may have the same common goal. The best thing about leadership is that it will always evolve if you expand your mind.  What maybe your leadership philosophy today may not necessarily be your leadership philosophy tomorrow.

Many of my philosophies were influenced by traits that are used by the U. S. Marine Corps and standard maxims, which will work well in any organization and some of them are: justice, judgment, dependability, initiative, decisiveness, integrity, enthusiasm, loyalty, and courage just to name a few. Another important skill that must be implemented for all of this to work is applied knowledge.

Student College Grants offered by the federal governments

There is hot news for the ones aiming for a college career; but could not do it because of economical hazards. Government grants will provide the opportunity. Students can obtain college grants which provide money to compensate for tuition and other expenses during college career. In the economic climate of today, a college degree is worth shooting for and the college grant gives you the right chance if you cannot afford it on your own.

Federal College Grants are offered up to those who are needy. Yet it is different based upon the area of study and level of academic excellence. Deprived scholars who can never aspire of going after academic classes are benefitted by the college grants. These are given on a semester or annual basis. In some instances, the scholarship extended to the pupils is not needed to be returned back like the Pell Grant Program which is a federal college grant. There are some terms to be satisfied before this grant is accredited. Each applier must be a US citizen, have a GED or high school diploma and must be able to win over their need for financial help.

The federal government has evolved a measure to estimate the eligibility of a student to draw the profits of a college grant. The financial condition is looked at. These factors are- properties and income of the pupil if individual, similar data for parents for dependent educatee – family size and number of members of the family entered for post-secondary institutions. These elements being widely various, the amount of grant varies depending on the actual need in personal cases. To get an idea of the scale of college grant, it may be stated that in the 2009-2010 school academic year, the maximum scholarship to be granted is $5,350.

Sociology Careers are Varied and Challenging

If you’re interested in human behavior and understanding how groups of people function and interact with each other, you may be interested in pursuing a degree in Sociology. This field is the study of human behavior within society and organizations. It focuses on how social, religious and political groups function within society as a whole. It also studies how various movements and demographics affect groups’ roles in society. A sociology degree can prepare you to work in any number of fields where studying data and tracking trends can change history or influence the outcome of events.

Sociologists research trends and patterns relating to how groups of people behave, comparing and contrasting differences and similarities between how individuals function. They also study pervasive patterns of behavior and the way large groups interact and respond to each other. Through their research, they spot patterns and see relationships that can ultimately make sense of human interactions.

The applications of sociology are widespread. Nearly every segment of the public and private sectors are interested in understanding how large groups of people will respond to what they will say or what they are doing. Governments are particularly interested in anticipating public response to issues of policy, and often use sociologists to study political trends and take the pulse of public opinion on hotly debated topics.

Businesses use sociologists for market research in order to determine how target demographic groups are likely to respond to new products or services. Sociologists conducting market research must have exceptional communication skills in order to conduct individual interviews within focus groups, conduct mass surveys, and then analyze the results of both with an eye to understanding how the majority of a group will act.

Getting Help with Home Schooling

Think of the next time you join a discussion around home schooling. When you begin sharing the fascinating home schooling facts below, your friends will be absolutely amazed.

Home schooling, despite of its popularity, is yet to have one singular standard for acceptability or validity. This means that as you go all over the nation, separate states have different levels of requirements for home schooling to be duly recognized.

The decision to home school your youngster isn’t the simplest one in the books. However, once you’ve made your decision, it may be a good period to start thorough research and inquiry into state requirements and other guidelines you have to take into consideration once you’ve made the decision.

There are states like Texas, Illinois, Missouri, or Oklahoma, among others, that do not require informing the state of any intention to home school your youngster. So technically, you may opt to begin your preschooler on home schooling already or pull your youngster out of the formal pedagogical system at your own will, should you decide that home schooling is for you.

Other states, however, would require you to inform the state and your child’s school of your intention to begin home schooling. It is only in this way that the state can accredit your child’s grade level standing. Alongside this expression of intent and plan is the requirement of the state for you to submit exam scores, progress evaluation grades, and even your child’s attendance record. The state may also specify an amount of time that should be spent in this informal school studying the various subjects you intend to teach your child.

Notting Hill College: Success through Partnership

If you’re looking to start or develop your own enterprise in the field of continuing education, you would do well to consider Notting Hill College and the business openings this growing institution offers. Whether you’re a fledgling entrepreneur or established course provider, the College fosters an array of opportunities for mutual business development that should not be overlooked. Notting Hill College is a British based institution specialising in further education and vocational training. Since its inception in 2004 the College has rapidly expanded its global reach thanks in no small part to its unusually successful franchising network. In this and other areas the key to NHC’s remarkable rise seems to be its genuinely people-centred ethos, which enables it to embrace policies that are mutually beneficial for the mother organisation and its partners and franchisees. The College is more than just a business however, and its people-centred attitude is reflected in its programmes, methodology and materials. Joining the College’s network of Partners, Agents and Accredited Course Providers is therefore a truly cooperative venture. Perhaps the most promising of the openings that Notting Hill College offers is what it dubs its Unique Business Opportunity. Aimed at potential partner centres, this venture represents a short-cut into the higher echelons of three lucrative and intrinsically trans-national training fields: language training, teacher training and business and soft skills training. Partners are expected to deliver Notting Hill College courses from one or more of the above fields, using syllabi and course materials exclusive to the College. In addition to access to these core training resources, NHC Partners are also provided with substantial support in setting up and running their centres that goes far beyond the usual technical guides and corporate identity manuals. Rather, franchisees are assigned a dedicated Business Development Manager who is available to provide technical, marketing and other support in person when necessary. The whole process is made refreshingly easy thanks to the online systems Notting Hill College already has in place for the benefit of its network. These include a Learning Management System for students, an Online Operational System for the use of NHC Partner Centres and an Online Administration System for Master Franchisees. Collectively these online systems drastically reduce the resources required to manage training centres efficiently and effectively so that they meet the high standards of customer service that the College has already established for itself. It goes without saying that NHC Partners also benefit from association with the College as a market-leading training provider with a flawless reputation, growing stature and mounting accolades for innovation. This takes the form of direct promotion via links on the College’s main website – a virtual hub for potential learners worldwide – as well as the more subtle influence of branding and design. Another venture worth considering, especially for established training providers, is accrediting your courses for credit transfer into Notting Hill College’s Master of Arts in TEFL. Again this enables you to buy into the College’s global reach and internationally respected status. Moreover, it gives your students and potential students access to a cutting-edge higher education teacher training programme that fills what has until recently been a striking gap in the TEFL market. Notting Hill College is an organisation that is clearly going places and in the spirit of twenty first century global partnership, it’s not closing the door behind it but opening doors for others to follow. Perhaps the most compelling thing about the College, though, is that it has maintained the integrity of its aims and methodology whilst hosting such a broad range of training solutions under its umbrella. Students of business will agree that such strongly articulated aims are gold dust in respect of the limitless potential opportunities today’s global market affords.
